Having worked within New Zealand education for many years, I saw first-hand how difficult the system can be to understand from the outside.

For international families, choosing a school is often only part of the challenge. There are also qualifications, subject choices, university pathways, school zones, applications, school culture and expectations that can be very different from those in their home country.

There is plenty of information available. The difficult part is knowing what matters, what it means, and how it applies to your child.

I realised families didn’t necessarily need more information.

They needed someone who could help them make sense of it.

That became the foundation of NZ School Advisory: independent advice that helps families understand New Zealand education, compare their options and make informed decisions with confidence.

Why NZ School Advisory exists

NZ School Advisory exists to help families make informed education decisions with confidence.

Having worked across several respected New Zealand schools, I developed a practical understanding of how schools differ beyond marketing material and league tables.

Schools differ in their culture, expectations, leadership, pastoral care, qualification pathways and academic strengths.

Helping families understand those differences—and how they align with their child's future and the family's long-term goals—is where my expertise adds the greatest value.

My role isn't to promote schools.

It's to help your family make the right educational decision for your future.

How do you match a child to a school?
We start by understanding your child, your family’s priorities, and the practical circumstances around the decision. From there, we help identify schools that are worth considering and explain the differences between them.
Do you only recommend a few schools?
No. The shortlist depends entirely on the child and the family. Some families end up with a tight shortlist of two or three schools; others need a broader comparison first.
What if we disagree with your view?
That is okay too. The aim is not to pressure families into a decision. It is to give you better information, clearer context, and a more thoughtful basis for making your own decision.
What if we already have a shortlist?
That is absolutely fine. Many families come to NZ School Advisory when they already have a shortlist and want an independent opinion before moving forward.
How long does the school selection process take?
It depends on how many schools you are considering, how urgent the timeline is, and whether the family is also relocating or applying within a specific intake window. Some families need a quick second opinion; others want a more in-depth selection process.
Why can't you simply tell us the "best" school?
There is no single “best” school in New Zealand. The right school depends on your child, your family’s priorities and your longer-term educational goals. Emma helps you understand the differences and identify the options most likely to be the right fit.
